GRASSROOTS GRANTS
Grassroots Grants is a National Programme that aims to invest in a thriving community sector across the whole of the UK to build stronger and more active communities. CNet has been appointed the Local Funder to deliver Grassroots Grants in the Bradford Metropolitan District.
The Grant aims to support small, largely volunteer led community organisations and groups, often with limited resources, have been in existence for at least 12 months, and has an annual income of less than £30,000 (averaged over last 3 years). These grants are intended for projects and activities that will build their capacity and address local needs.
Grants from £250 - £5,000 are available under the scheme.

AIMING HIGH FOR DISABLED CHILDREN - SHORT BREAK FUNDING
The Aiming High for Disabled Children (AHDC) Short Break Funding is designed to enable organisations working with disabled children and young people up to the age of 19 years across Bradford Metropolitan District to provide additional and creative short break provision. The funding is part of the Aiming High Short Break Transformation Programme (AHDC Fund) from the Department of Children, Schools & Families (DSCSF). Bradford has been chosen as a Pathfinder area and CNet (Bradford and District Community Empowerment Network Ltd) is delivering this grant programme on behalf of the Bradford Metropolitan District Council.
This funding will cover the provision of Short Breaks during school holidays, weekends and after school, aimed particularly at those children & young people who commonly fail to access such activities because of a shortage of services. Grants must be used to provide additional places for short breaks and cannot be used to fund existing provision. We are particularly looking for new, creative and innovative ways to engage disabled children and young people and to allow them to have fun.
Between £1,000 and £5,000 is available per organisation per year over the next two years. It is accepted that costs will vary enormously depending on the needs of the individual children or young people accessing provision and therefore flexibility will be recognised when assessing applications. You can apply for funding to cover activities over two years but if successful the grant would be paid in two instalments.
Closing dates for receipt of applications for year 2009/2010 is:
- 12 noon Monday 23 November 2009.
Each year’s allocation will need to be spent in the appropriate financial year as there is no roll over facility.

TARGETED SUPPORT FUND : REAL HELP FOR COMMUNITIES This fund has now come to an end
The Office of the Third Sector (OTS) has launched £15.5m Real Help for Communities: Targeted Support Fund to help organisations that are providing key, recession focussed services under one of the themes below:
- Information, advice and guidance (housing, financial, debt and legal advice and support)
- Employment and employability (training and support related to finding employment).
- Health and wellbeing (mental health, relationship breakdown, counselling, domestic violence & substance abuse)
It is funded by the OTS and managed by the Community Development Foundation (CDF). CNet (Bradford and District Community Empowerment Network Ltd) is the Local Funder for Bradford Metropolitan District and is delivering the above Grant Programme of £410,892 to small, local, third sector service providers to communities that are considered most at risk of increasing levels of deprivation as a result of the recession.
The fund provides targeted support to small, third sector, local service providers that are established, are a registered charity or company limited by guarantee, exempted or excepted charities, voluntary and community organisations, or social enterprises, be active in their local community for a minimum of 18 months with a proven track record in delivering the services they want funding for and can evidence income of no less than £30,000 and no more than £250,000 per annum (taken as an average income over the last three financial years, or over the life of the group if it is less than three years old) and are able to evidence that the increased demand on their services is as a result of the recession.
The grant amounts have been designed to allow maximum flexibility balanced with the need to ensure impact. Therefore the maximum grant to a local organisation will be £40,000 and the minimum will be £10,000. The grants must be spent by 31 March 2010.
The fund will open on 7 May 2009, with a closing deadline of 29 June 2009.
