Active Citizens 2011 was a year-long, district wide campaign, celebrating the efforts of people who, in a voluntary capacity, make a significant contribution to making the District a better place to live.
The idea for an Active Citizens campaign originated with the Stronger Communities Partnership and was endorsed by the Council Executive in October 2010.
The Strategic Disability Partnership, Older People's Partnership, Health and Well being Partnership, Children and Young People's and Safer Communities Partnerships all contributed to the organisation of the year.
Key organisations involved included; Bradford Council , NHS Bradford and Airedale , CNet , Bradford Volunteer Centre , Keighley & District Volunteer Centre , Shipley Volunteer Centre, the West Yorkshire Police and many local voluntary and community organisations.
Over 100 events were branded throughout the year under the banner of Active Citizens 2011.
The Civic Year of Active Citizens and Volunteering 2011 aimed to:
- Celebrate the contribution and achievements of the District's active citizens
- Deepen our understanding of the contribution (actual and potential) of active citizens to the life of the District
- Further engage District's active citizens in the debate on the future of the District
- Create new opportunities for everyone to get involved and contribute to the life of the District
