Public Governor Opportunities at Bradford District Care Trust

Bradford District Care Trust want local people with a real interest in healthcare to consider applying for one of their 15 Public Governor roles once they are advertised.

What will a Public Governor Do?

A Public Governor will have a number of statutory duties including:

  • Influencing the services provided by the Trust by talking to and speaking up for other local people;
  • Holding the Board to account for the performance of the Trust;
  • Appointing (and if appropriate, removing) the Chairman, Chief Executive and Non-Executive Directors;
  • Appointing the Trust's auditor (the person who looks at how the Trust looks after its money);
  • Approving any mergers, acquisitions and significant transactions that the Trust may want to enter into; and
  • Approving changes to the Trust's constitution.

Governors do not get paid, but the Trust will help all Governors to attend Council of Governors meetings. These will usually last for about three hours and Governors will decide where these should take place and what time they should start. Refreshments will be provided at the meetings and Governors can claim expenses for travelling to meetings.

Other Things a Governor May Want to Do

Governors may also decide to get involved in other activities such as: joining our Governor committees; helping to develop the Membership Strategy;
